Ingredients

  • 4 hot dogs (beef or pork)
  • 4 hot dog buns
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon chipotle powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1/2 cup shredded red cabbage
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 1 medium avocado, sliced

Instructions

  • Prep the Hot Dogs: In a small bowl, mix together the chipotle powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Rub the spice mixture evenly over the hot dogs.
  • Cook the Hot Dogs: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the seasoned hot dogs and cook for 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned and heated through.
  • Make the Sriracha Mayo: In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sriracha sauce, and lime juice. Mix well until smooth.
  • Toast the Buns: Lightly toast the hot dog buns in the same skillet for about 1 minute, or until golden.
  • Assemble the Hot Dogs: Spread a generous amount of sriracha mayo on each bun. Place a cooked hot dog in each bun and top with shredded red cabbage, diced red onion, chopped cilantro, and avocado slices.
  • Serve: Serve immediately and enjoy your 4th of July Firecracker Hot Dogs!

Notes

Pro Tips: For extra smokiness, grill the hot dogs over charcoal instead of cooking them on the stovetop. If you prefer a milder kick, reduce the amount of chipotle powder. Toast the buns lightly for added texture. Use tongs to flip the hot dogs for even cooking.Storage: Store leftover cooked hot dogs and toppings separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat hot dogs in a skillet or microwave before serving.Variations: Swap the hot dogs for bratwursts or veggie dogs for a different twist. Add sliced jalapeƱos or pickled onions for extra heat and crunch. Use pretzel buns for a salty contrast.
